Queer Cinema Guide
Carola Gatto, Queer Cinema Guide is a guide to the magical world of queer representation in cinema. 250 films are classified based on several thematic categories, illustrated throughout. These range from horror films to comedy, including animated films and the camp genre, grouping together movies that have played a significant role in shaping the collective imagination of queer identities and expressions. Start your binge-watching now! *More*/ A key aspect of the book is the way the information is organized: creating large chapters containing films might have ended up being too vague. A selected film can be horror, but also camp, and it may feature drag cha- racters while also being a love story. So I decided to create illustrations that could represent these categories and use them as tags. Each double page is dedicated to a film, and when certain illustra- tions appear on the page, they indicate the categories the film belongs to. The illustrations accompanying each category are the visual heart of the project, designed to express through images the themes and iconic characters of each subgenre. At the beginning of the book, there is a brief explanation for each illustration and the category it represents, making the visual reading clearer, but also introducing incre- dible characters from films that have been largely forgotten by most.
